I know, it’s old news already — I’m two days late posting “Super Moon” pictures.
I dragged Mrs. HoaiPhai down to the end of the street on Saturday night (May 5, 2012) to spend half an hour waiting for the Moon to rise only to find out that, for some reason, I thought it would come up in a slightly different spot than I had imagined, so all my shots were taken with branches all around and not the row of buildings I had planned. Nevertheless, here they are…
There’s not a whole lot of variety in the remaining photos… I spend yesterday playing around with a group of images to see what I could tease out of them so the rest of the photos are all quite similar. Hope you don’t get too bored with them.
All photos were taken using my Reflex-Nikkor C 500mm f/8 on my D300, by the way.
Next Super Moon I promise to get something interesting in the foreground for you (weather permitting).

Fantastic shots… 🙂

Thanks! It was well worth the trip to the end of the block but I pledge to find a better location for some future full moon.

I read your post again and had a good laugh… Poor Mrs H dragged down the street… 😆 Yes, the shots turned out nicely.

Mrs. H actually likes coming along on my photo missions but the photo shoots at the end of the street seem to be jinxed for her. The first time (last year) she was almost falling asleep as I took the pictures and then this year the weather was quite nice but suddenly she got the chills.

Bloody brilliant shots! Couldn’t see it here ’cause of the cloud cover, and I did take some photos during a break, and it was a lovely full moon, but had missed that swollen coloured moon of the earliest rising. Sigh.

Here in Niagara I had a bit of trouble because I didn’t leave the house until last-minute so where I got to didn’t offer anything too interesting on the horizon, so I processed the images to the nth degree on the computer.

Nice photographs and story Mr. Hoai Phai. I especially liked the stacked-moon photograph right on top. Predicting events for photographing can be frustrating and very difficult — they always seem to be elusive! But I guess that is one major reason that makes photography not be mundane and but always exciting. After several attempts, when we finally “catch” the elusive, we feel extremely content (although short-lived) and happy. I would like to share my story of the super-moon (2011) here — http://indranilsinharoy.com/photography/gallery-landscape/supermoon-3/

Thank you very much! As you have already read, my determination of the moonrise’s location was a bit off because I relied on my extremely flawed memory. The photo I remembered taking was actually taken three months later than I had thought.
Your “Super Moon” post is a prime example of what happens when a little research and planning teams up with an artistic mind’s eye. I highly recommend that anyone reading this comment visit your post to see how it should be done!

Who would have thought the moon was this cool? Think I’ve been taking it for granted. Wonderful shots.

Any celestial object that Pink Floyd names an entire album after the dark side of cannot be all bad!

A very valid point. Then there’s Harvest Moon by Neil Young.

“Super Moons” happen once per year, and are lovely, but I always find the Moon captivating.

There’s no reason why you can’t post a “Remembering The Super Moon” piece.. I published my “What I Did on My Christmas Vacation” post on June 14!

I have posted it – last night (when I should’ve been in bed…)

Beautiful shots, too! Anyone who’s interested should take a look at them here! It’s never too late to post something… WordPress isn’t running a news wire here. And thanks for reminding me about a post I never posted. Be on the lookout for a something called something having to do with “missing the boat” in the next week or so.

Ok 🙂
